The OTTAWA SPORTS PARK (OSP)
What is The OSP?
The OSP concept and business case was (developed) by Larry Pegg of Ecoview Developments and overall it is seeking to achieve model status as a leading example of community-based sustainable development in North America.
The main focus of the OSP project was to contribute positively to the community by developing a facility that responds to Ottawa's stated need to address quality of life issues that have been clearly identified in a number of recent reports and in the City's twenty-year growth plan. The overall facility is described as a sports (mainly soccer and ultimate), recreation and environmental center.
Perhaps the most unique feature of the facility is its location in proximity to three major features that combine to make it an absolutely spectacular 'one-of-a-kind' location and opportunity.
Aesthetically it is proposed on 250 acres of low-grade farmland that is nestled into a large protected and ecologically significant forest and wetland area that surrounds Ottawa's International Airport. Because of its poor grade agricultural soils, the land has been designated by the City of Ottawa as suitable for sports fields.
Secondly, the land is right on the new LRT corridor that will be part of the first leg of Ottawa's (light rail) Rapid Transit Expansion Plan (ORTEP). The sustainable transportation access to the OSP is an absolute must for achieving maximum reduction in car use to and from the facility and Ecoview hopes that the excitement of the Park will stimulate an excitement to use transit that will ultimately help the City in its quest to achieve 30% modal split. The business case benefits from access to sleek and modern LRT vehicles which will draw users from the core. As with many city core challenges, Ottawa's core suffers from an under supply of sports fields and other green space recreation opportunities......In addition, there are no current examples of mutli-use parking areas that can double as park and ride in the day while providing other beneficial uses during evenings and weekends. Along with the obvious benefit of lower capital costs, shared use park and rides reduces environmental impacts and maintenance costs including making them more inviting .

Perhaps the most stunning aspect of the OSP location is its location within the main aerial gateway to Ottawa's International Airport (Runway 32). Incoming passengers would see the OSP and the city's unique Greenbelt legacy first-hand as they fly into Ottawa. total passengers served at Ottawa International Airport per year is approximately 4 million, of which, roughly 1.8 million would approach for landing directly over the facility.
The significance of this aerial gateway can be seen in our two animated videos which put you in the plane actually flying into Ottawa right over the OSP (Click to view the Fly-by far and close up). The sports marketing significance is captured in a new (2004 release) book entitled ‘Sports Inc. - 100 years of Sports Marketing by Sports Marketing expert Phil Schaaf. Larry Pegg asks: "Where in the world could there be a better place for this than Ottawa?" Ottawa! We need your help to make this project happen.
